Rita M. Hilyer, 87, Patton, died Sunday at her home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of George F. and Dorothy C. (Holtz) Greiner.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Greiner; sister, Connie Greiner; and granddaughter, Heather Owens.

She is survived by children: Larry (Patty) Hilyer of Patton; Tom (Nora) Hilyer of Patton and Cindy (Dale) Dixon of Bellefonte; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronnie (Puri) Griener of Patton and Jerry (Barb) Greiner of Patton; and many nieces and nephews.

Rita graduated in 1952 from Altoona Catholic High School. She was a longtime employee of Veeder-Root Co., retiring after 39 years of service.

She was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Patton, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, where she served as International Director for several years; Patton Garden Club, where she was president for years and over time held several other positions, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul de Patton.

Rita loved gardening and bird watching.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 N. Fifth Ave., Patton, where a wake for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, by the Benedictine Fathers. Incarceration at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 500 Railroad Ave., Patton, PA 16668.
