The Knights of Columbus offers a monthly meal to the community | Local News

Residents looking for a hearty home-cooked meal were able to satisfy their cravings on Sunday at a fundraising dinner.

Chicken and meatballs, a roll, green beans, french fries and a drink. It’s the meal that was available Sunday at the Vine Grove Knights of Columbus Hall behind St. Brigid’s Catholic Church.

The organization offers a low-cost meal every third Sunday of the month. Although this week’s meal is chicken and meatballs, what’s served varies and includes pulled pork, quarter chicken and pork chops, said member Zachary Terteo.

“We generally do pretty well,” he said.

Served in a drive-thru style, the organization had a steady flow of customers around 11am with a short break in between. Among those enjoying the meal was Martha Vowels. She moved to the area not too long ago, but said she has received meals from the Knights of Columbus a few times now.

“I like it,” she said. “It’s a good price, the gentlemen are always very nice, it’s for a good cause, and I don’t have to cook.”

Money raised from the monthly meal goes towards the organization’s annual Christmas Hamper program, where they assemble boxes containing food items for the holiday season to deliver to designated residents of Vine Grove, Radcliff, Rineyville and Flaherty. The money raised also goes to scholarships and support seminars.

For the most part, all the money raised goes back into the community, said Ken Baker of the Knights of Columbus.

The next meal is February 20. The cost of a meal is $9.
