Two men were seriously injured in the incident, which is currently being investigated by police.

The driver did not pull over, but two men have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody.

Many people across Wigan and further afield felt shocked and upset by the incident, with some taking to social media to pay tribute to those involved.

Church leaders are doing what they can to help and the faithful in Wigan will honor those who attend tomorrow’s services.

Reverend Rachel Sheehan has already spoken to people working in nearby businesses to offer her support.

A woman died after the incident outside Fifteens in Pemberton

Congregations from several churches in the borough – including St John’s in Pemberton, St Luke’s in Orrell, St Francis’ in Kitt Green and St Barnabas’ in Marsh Green – will pray for the woman and two men, along with their loved ones, during Sunday services.

A post on the Wigan Northwest Parish Facebook page said: ‘As most have heard, last night there was a tragic accident outside Fifteens on Ormskirk Road, Pemberton. Reverend Rachel went this morning to speak to local businesses and offer his support.

“As a parish and as a church in Wigan, we keep the family and friends of the deceased lady in our thoughts and prayers. We also hold in prayer the two men who were injured, and in fact all those who were involved and affected by the incident.We will be praying specifically for them at all of our church services across the parish tomorrow.
