Obituary of Mary Armijo (1930 – 2021) – Trinidad, CO

Mary Ernestine Armijo was born on January 12, 1930. The Lord called her home on October 29, 2021.
Mary was a devoted Catholic and faithfully attended Mass at St. Joseph & Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She loved to watch the Catholic Channel (EWTN) and prayed the Rosary every day. She was a member of the Society of Guadeloupe for many years.
Mary attended Trinidad State Junior College where she obtained her CNA certification. She was employed at the Trinidad State Nursing Home and later transferred to Mount San Rafael Hospital where she worked at the nursery. It was a job she loved and enjoyed taking care of newborns. When the nursery closed, she moved to the patient care unit and retired after 25 years of service.
Mary took care of taking care of her great-grandchildren and the children of her friends. She liked to take care of her house, her garden and wash her car. She couldn’t wait to go to Alaska to visit the Spicola family. Mary was a very caring and loving person who never hesitated to help her family and friends.
Her hobbies included crocheting and making afghans for her family and baking her Spanish cookies for each holiday. At Christmas time, everyone was waiting for their delicious empanadas and assorted Christmas cookies. She also liked to canned jelly and jams and share with her family. She tied up fishing flies to help pay for the family vacations.
Mary had a heart of gold larger than the sun and the moon. Mary was a great mother and always tried to make things easier for her children. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Her husband (John Armijo) precedes her in death; parents (Paul & Lucinda Lopez); daughter (Dolores Padilla; great-grandson (Codi Spicola-Jolin); brothers (Pete, John & Richard Lopez); sisters (Dora, Della, MaryLou, Mary Ellan & Priscella); and son-in-law (Gilbert Sanchez).
Brothers Ernest, Charlie and Edward Lopez remain in his memory; sons Ernest (Sandy) Medina, Orlando (Marlene) Medina, Joe (Kathy) Spicola, John (Vicki) Armjio; daughters Maryann Sanchez and Evelyn (Todd) Terrill; 6 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
The carriers are Brendyn Medina, Joshua Sanchez, Christopher Choate, Clay Medina, Derek Medina and Caleb Armijo. Honorary bearers are Abe Spicola, Brett Armijo, Roy Kyle Choate, Jon Paul Padilla, Kathi Jo Spicola, Melanie Trujillo, Charmain Johnson, Hope Padilla and Janelle Armijo.
Visitations will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Chapel of Comi Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 with the Rosary at 9 a.m. at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Catholic cemetery of Trinidad.
