Lewiston and the churches of Belfast to host Transitus services
From the earliest days of the Franciscan Order, the disciples of Saint Francis of Assisi have gathered on the anniversary of his death to celebrate his Transitus, or passage from earthly life to eternal life. The Transitus service is a commemoration of his death that was rendered by one of his brother brothers, Brother Bonaventure, who witnessed his death in 1226, according to a press release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
To commemorate this birthday and the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is Monday October 4, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and the Church of the Holy Family are planning to organize special events that week. .
Saturday and Sunday October 2 and 3, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Court St., Belfast
On Saturday October 2, a Mass for Saint Francis will take place at 4 p.m., followed by a Transitus service at 5 p.m. After the service, everyone can stay and watch a short film on the life and impact of Saint Francis of Assisi and his counsels in the world today. Pizza and drinks will be provided at 5:30 p.m.
On Sunday October 3, in addition to a morning mass at 8:30 a.m., Fr. Divine Fossoh will host an animal blessing service outside the church at 2:30 p.m. in honor of Saint Francis’ love for all. the creatures of God. All animals are welcome to be blessed and gently sprinkled with holy water.
